Buildin’ Bikes

Buildin’ Bikes

At-a-Glance

Buildin’ Bikes is either a 2 hour program or 3.5 hour program and can be facilitated indoors or outdoors at almost any location.

Teams of 10-12 compete in a series of contests or challenges to earn bike pieces as they go. Once all pieces have been awarded, teams begin their bike assembly. At the end of the event, based on availability, a representative and kids from a local non-profit come to talk about their organization and receive their new bikes. Teams may size and fit kids to their bikes and be able to share in the experience.

We complete the event by debriefing the day’s experiences and drawing parallels to workplace dynamics.

The Facilitators’ Role

Prep

  • Review all pre-program communication & instructions in detail.
  • Practice introductions of activities at home and with facilitators onsite.

Logistics

  • Releases: collect and review for skipped signatures, cross-outs and missing dates; communicate with lead facilitator as needed.
  • Supplies: distribute according to plan.
  • Manage safety: safety check bikes and ensure all parts are properly in place.
  • Photos: take pictures throughout program of individuals and of teams posing with their bikes and most important and often forgotten, a final large group photo.

Facilitation

  • Lead facilitator introduces the program.
  • Be a super star! Be proactive and anticipate needs. This is not a time to socialize with facilitators; our client’s perception of our involvement in the program and our professionalism will be higher if you engage with the teams.
  • All Facilitators facilitate activities (fair and fun is priority!), collect answers and award points. You may be a timekeeper or possibly a note-taker.
  • Lead facilitator wraps up program by leading a large group debrief and presenting bikes to the charity.

Clean-up

  • Pack supplies for return shipping and assist with bike delivery.

Why Buildin’ Bikes is Such a Great Program!

  • Teams give back to the local community by providing cool new bikes to children ages 7-10 years old.
  • Events are custom designed to meet the goals and needs of the team and can be done in a short time period.
