GeoTrek

GeoTrek

At-a-Glance

GeoTrek is a half-day program (3.5 hours) set in rural or urban settings. GeoTrek blends nature and technology. Teams of 3-4 are given maps, taught to use GPS units then compete to trek to as many caches as possible within the time constraints; they usually walk 4-5 miles. Teams may find an actual cache, a virtual cache or an Adventure Associates facilitator with instructions for a team challenge. Depending on the location and the groups goals, the use of public transportation may be available to travel from cache to cache.

We complete the adventure by debriefing the day’s experiences and drawing parallels to workplace dynamics.

The Facilitators’ Role

Prep

  • Review all pre-program communication.

Logistics

  • Releases: collect and review for skipped signatures, cross-outs and missing dates; communicate with lead facilitator as needed.
  • Supplies: distribute and collect team backpacks.
  • Photos: take pictures throughout program and most important and often forgotten, a final large group photo.

Facilitation

  • Lead facilitator introduces the program.
  • Facilitators are strategically positioned to facilitate a bonus challenge mid-way in the trek; You may be a timekeeper or possibly a note-taker.
  • Lead facilitator wraps up program by leading a large group scoring session and debrief with co-facilitators taking notes.

Clean-up

  • Pack supplies for return shipping.

Why GeoTrek is Such a Great Program!

  • Teams must practice strategic planning in order to reach all the cache-sites.
  • Individuals within the teams must communicate and collaborate to complete the challenges hidden in the caches.
  • Participants explore resource allocation (time and people).
  • Teams experience the thrill of exploring uncharted territory together.
