Golf for Goodness Sake

Golf for Goodness Sake

At-a-Glance

Golf for Goodness Sake is a 2.5 hour program and can be facilitated indoors or outdoors at almost any location. Golf for Goodness Sake combines building a mini golf course with the opportunity to give back to the local community by donating non-perishable food items to a local food bank or homeless shelter.

Teams of 4-5 receive instructions, design parameters and building supplies, then develop a design concept and construction plan. Teams use limited supplies of dry goods, cans and boxes that vary in shape and size to configure their mini golf hole. Building in themes and obstacles, teams display their creativity through imagination and teamwork. Points are awarded during the tournament as team members play the mini golf holes created by their coworkers.

We complete the event by debriefing the day’s experiences and drawing parallels to workplace dynamics.

The Facilitators’ Role

Prep

  • Review all pre-program communication.

Logistics

  • Releases: collect and review for skipped signatures, cross-outs and missing dates; communicate with lead facilitator as needed.
  • Supplies: distribute according to plan.
  • Photos: take pictures throughout program and, most important and often forgotten, a final large group photo.

Facilitation

  • Lead facilitator introduces the program.
  • Be a super star! Be proactive and anticipate needs. This is not a time to socialize with facilitators; our client’s perception of our involvement in the program and our professionalism will be higher if you engage with the teams.
  • Facilitators float, coach and encourage teams during design process. You may be a timekeeper or possibly a note-taker.
  • Lead facilitator wraps up program by leading a large group debrief.

Clean-up

  • Pack food donations for pickup or delivery.
  • Pack supplies for return shipping.

Why Golf for Goodness Sake is Such a Great Program!

  • Groups learn about using limited resource sharing and allocation, creativity, collaboration and brainstorming.
  • Teams give back to the local community while strengthening communication skills in a fun, lively setting.
